The final tip for all would-be warriors is to make sure you defend your desk from impromptu attacks. Getting a cup of coffee or getting detained at the printer could be just the opportunity for an enemy strike. Rex, the motion activated guard dog could help. Sitting innocently in his kennel, no-one will suspect the alert he’ll put up if they try to invade your desk. As soon as there is movement in Rex’s vicinity he will bark and growl loudly until they have gone. This should scare off intruders or at least warn you something untoward is going on! Always be on alert with the finest in desk security!

If, however, you suffer the wrath of a humourless boss, you might need to invest in covert devices such as the USB Stealth switch.

This is an emergency abort button that plugs into your USB port and allows you to hide your screen with one touch. Put it on the floor for example and press it with your foot as soon as said boss nears your screen. That way you can hide your battle plans in the blink of an eye!

Small enough to put in your pocket, these remote control German Tiger Tanks have infa-red laser beams to aim and fire at your enemies. If you hit another tank, that tank will go off in an uncontrollable spin.

They have a great sound system to mimic the sounds of firing and move around speedily on tiny caterpillar tracks so desktop hazards are no obstacle. Who wins depends on your skills as a Desktop General.

Get yourself a desktop USB missile launcher if you really mean business!

Once plugged into your computer with a USB cable, this launcher uses pressurized air to fire foam missiles up to 10 foot away. And the really awesome bit is that it comes with a software CD that allows you to set up a control panel on your computer. Once installed, you’ll be able to swivel and tilt your launcher from your keypad and fire surreptitiously at passers by or unsuspecting desk neighbours. Quality entertainment and a seriously good desktop weapon with plenty of power to beat the catapult.

Some of the best desktop war toys are based on traditional weapons! A current favourite with this new generation of suited commandos is the mini Ballista catapult which is based on an original ancient Roman design and equally able to pack a mini punch at your colleagues.

The build-them-yourself kits fit together easily and sit inconspicuously on your desk. It’s surprising how well they aim and how far you can actually fire your weapons, be that wet tissue, paper clips or whatever else you can transform into a flying object.

The desktop catapult - Roman weaponry
